living a nightmare

Dawn approaches. The sun is out and the stage is set. You are born. Circumstances grip your neck and they entangle you. Your life as a child is horrible. You are stripped of your parents. You mourn but your tears are meaningless to the world. Nobody cares. You are all alone. STRESSED AND DEPRESSED, YOU GO OUT TO FACE THE DAY. GREETED BY THE SONG BIRDS, YOU HAVE A REASON TO SMILE. HOWEVER, THE MOMENT IS SHORT-LIVED AS IN NO TIME, REALITY STRIKES. HARDSHIPS START AND YOUR MIND IS TROUBLED. ALREADY RUINED IS THE COOL AND QUIET DAY. THE SUN STARTS TO SCORCH JUST WHEN YOU NEED IT TO BE COOL. YOU HIDE UNDER A TREE AND THE RAINS START. YOU ARE SOAKED WET.

MIDDAY FINDS YOU WET AND HUNGRY. “WHERE AM I EVEN GOING?” YOU ASK YOURSELF. YOU SIMPLY DO NOT KNOW WHY YOU LEFT THE HOUSE IN THE FIRST PLACE. YOUR STOMACH RAISES QUESTIONS WHICH YOU SEEMINGLY HAVE DIFFICULTIES IN ANSWERING. YOU LOOK FOR A NEARBY STAND. THERE SEEMS TO BE THE SOLUTION TO YOUR STOMACH PLEAS. A SUMPTIOUS MEAL WILL DO. YOU DROP TO YOUR POCKETS WITH A SMILE ON YOUR FACE AS YOU CANNOT WAIT TO FEED. THE SMILE SLOWLY FADES. THE POCKETS CANNOT MEET THE DEMAND OF THE MEAL. YOU ARE FORCED TO BUY WATER AND FRIED GROUNDNUTS WITH CASSAVA. ATLEAST, YOUR STOMACH SETTLES. YOU CANT BEAR TO IMAGINE NIGHTFALL. BUT BEFORE YOUR IMAGINATIONS TRAIL OFF, YOUR NIGHTMARE IS HERE.

NIGHT FALLS. YOU ARE ALL ALONE, ABANDONED BY YOUR WIFE WHO LEFT WITH THE KIDS FOR A BETTER LIVING WITH YOUR UNCLE. SOON NEWS IS HEARD THAT SHE MARRIED HIM A WEEK AGO. YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO REACT. YOU REMEMBER THE PROMISES SHE MADE TO YOU ON YOUR WEDDING DAY AND THE HONEY MOON MONTH, THE JOY AND LOVE YOU SHARED, YOU SMILE BUT BEFORE LONG, A TEAR DROPS. YOU KNOW WHY YOU ARE CRYING. YOU MISS YOUR FAMILY BUT IT WASN’T YOUR FAULT. YOU WERE ATTACKED AT NIGHT. BEATEN AND LEFT ALMOST DEAD, YOU BEGGED FOR YOUR LIFE SO THAT YOU COULD SAY BYE TO YOUR WIFE. YOU CALL HER, THE PHONE RINGS AND YOUR UNCLE PICKS UP. YOU ARE FRUSTRATED BUT YOU JUST HAVE TO BE A MAN.

“CAN I TALK TO PRISCA?”

“WHO IS THIS?” YOUR SEEMINGLY DRUNK UNCLE WHO HAPPENS TO BE YOUR WIFE’S HUSBAND RESPONDS.

“THIS IS MICHAEL.”

TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

THE CALL CUTS AND YOU FEEL LIKE EXPLODING BUT YOU ARE ON THE GROUND, BADLY HURT AND AT THE MERCY OF THE ROBBERS. YOU NOW REVERT YOUR STATEMENT. YOU BEG FOR THEM TO KILL YOU AND THEY DO THE DIRECT OPPOSITE. THEY SAY YOU ARE NOT WORTH KILLING. YOU CRY BUT AGAIN, YOUR TEARS ARE MEANINGLESS TO ANYONE. YOU CANNOT GET UP. THE ROBBERS LEAVE YOU TO SURVIVE THE HARSH CONDITIONS OF THE RAINY NIGHT IN THE MUD. YOU ARE HELPLESS. YOU SCREAM BUT TO NO AVAIL. YOU GIVE UP. YOU THROW YOURSELF IN A DITCH. YOU HAND IS BROKEN AND YOUR KNEE HAS A DISLOCATION BUT YOU ARE NOT DEAD. YOU HAVE JUST ADDED MORE MISERY TO YOUR HURTING LIFE. AGAIN, YOU CRY. YOU CRY BECAUSE IT PHYSICALLY HURTS AND AS A CONSOLATION OR AS IF SOMEBODY LOOKED AT YOU, THE RAINS FALL DOWN. YOU ARE IN A DITCH, BROKEN AND HELPLESS. MUD WATER IS THE ONLY THING THAT BYPASSES YOUR TONGUE APART FROM THE CASSAVA YOU TOOK EARLIER IN THE DAY. YOU NOW OPEN YOUR MOUTH SO YOU CAN DROWN BUT THE RAINS STOP. IT SIMPLY ISN’T YOUR TIME. THE NIGHT IS HORRIBLE AND SINCE YOU CAN’T DIE, YOU PRAY FOR DAWN. YOUR WISH IS GRANTED.

Dawn approaches. The sun is out and the stage is set. ANOTHER STRESSFUL DAY. TODAY IS DIFFERENT. YOU’VE FOUND YOUR SELF IN A DITCH AND HALF STRIPPED NAKED. THE FIRST THING YOU DO IS CRY BUT TODAY, YOUR TEARS MATTER. A PASSERBY SEES YOU AND CALLS FOR HELP. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT THE HELP SHE CALLS IS THE POLICE WHO IN NO TIME ARRIVE AND FIND YOU IN A DITCH CURSING THE DAY YOU WERE BORN. YOU ARE ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. TAKEN IN, you have no objection. Little do you know that your life is about to change. The prison wars greet you with an overwhelming applaud as you are thrown in. your hosts humiliate you and sodomize you. Your muscles get weak and every time the call of nature comes, it is gracefully answered anytime and anywhere, mostly your trousers act as the toilets because you have no control. Your muscles are simply strained. The force that they experienced was far too great for them to bear. It hurts you and you cry. Once more, your tears are meaningless.

Finally, like a butterfly out of the cocoon, you decide enough is enough. Today is a different day and indeed it is. After six years of being brutalized and abused, you are released on account of being the most well behaved. The outside world is different. You again are back to the world where you had nothing to eat. However, this time, you do not cry. You tear a shirt and turn it into a mask. You cover your face and go out at night. You clear any opposition you meet without any remorse. You are simply having no feelings. You kill an innocent man. Before he dies, he says, “See you in five minutes” and he dies. Now your conscious comes back and haunts you. Life is meaningless. Why did you kill him? Now you are just three minutes away from meeting him. You are scared and decide to die before the time is up. You climb on a tower and as you are about to jump, you see your wife’s husband. You decide to kill him before you die. Your knife is at hand and you easily kill him not knowing that your wife and kids are watching you. You turn and see them. You are shocked. You just murdered another person, you are now a criminal. Your wife tries to call the police but you are too swift and easily stab her.

“What?” you just killed your wife. Now your two sons are looking at you. Scared you know they are, you assure them that mummy will be back. Alas! They are too mature for such. They scream and run. “Police! Police!” they scream but again, you are too swift for both of them. You capture and kill. You are simply ruthless. Now you are all alone. Its past five minutes and now all the people you’ve killed seem to be haunting you. You go for it. You stab yourself, it hurts and you lose a lot of blood. You can feel yourself dying but just then, a Christian passes your way and drives you to the hospital. They stitch your wounds, sorry, not dying today! You cry! This time the nurse is at hand to comfort you. You feel loved but just then; the man that had earlier arrested you enters the room. You are taken in again and again, your hosts rape you.

What is happening to you? …. Onemind!
